Poker on TV
In poker, there are various types of play that a poker player can use in the games. You may use one of them per game, but it would be better if you combine some of them in one game. This will help you be unpredictable. Some of these poker plays are aggressive plays, check-raise plays, drawing plays, isolation plays, position plays and slow playing.
The aggressive play is done by almost always raising and reraising. In this play, the poker player should rarely fold, call, or check. When this type of poker play is in the game, expect a lot of action.
On the other hand, a player who chooses the check-raise play just checks at the start of the round, but when another player at the poker table raises, he reraises. He sets a trap in which the other poker player who raised finds it hard to get out from, like the others who have already called. This is a tricky play.
The drawing play is done with a poker player calling even if he has not formed a good hand yet, but is expecting to get one with the last community cards. This is one of the plays with the most risks, because to get a straight draw or a flush draw is very hard to do.
When you want to decrease the number of hands at play, then, you use the isolation play. In isolation play, the poker player raises his bet in hope that the other players at the poker table will get scared, and will fold. This is also known as bluffing, which you do when you do not really have a good hand so you want to eliminate as much contenders as possible early on.
Position has a huge role in poker, particularly in Texas Hold'em poker, thus, there exist position plays. Position in Texas Hold'em poker can help you win. In this type of play, the different positions have advantages unique from each other. A poker player should be able to play his position's strength well.
Protection plays can be likened to isolation plays. In this play, a poker player raises to protect his own hand, so that it would not be beaten by other hands which could be drawing hands.
Slow playing is the counterpart of what we call bluffing. Instead of raising because of a good hand, the poker player in slow play, chooses to call. The aim of this play is to catch more players into the pot, who would have folded if he raised. He would definitely raise in a later round.
